Movie Analysis

The movie I am doing is Scream! I am a big fan of the Scream franchise and got my sister into the Scream movies. I did the opening scene from YouTube as the app I used did not allow me to take screenshots, unfortunately. :(

Casey Becker Getting Attacked by Killer.

In this scene it uses a close-up shot and a high angle, the scene focuses on Casey's face as Ghostface is choking Casey.  Using a high-angle shot creates a sense of weakness as you look at the subject from above. This scene shows Casey on the floor creating a sense of weakness and vulnerability. This is obviously shown as she is being murdered. The focus is on her face and emotions. It shows how helpless she feels in this scene, this is also seen as the scene takes place at her house in the middle of nowhere when her parents are not home. This all evokes a mood of helplessness and weakness.

                                                             Casey Hiding Behind TV.
In this scene, Casey is on the floor ducked behind the TV, Ghostface is asking Casey Trivia questions that will decide if her boyfriend will live or not. This scene uses a medium shot mainly focusing on Casey's waist and the phone. Casey ducked behind the TV and adopted a sense of vulnerability as she made herself smaller to hide. Also, the TV being bigger than Casey in this sense confirms that the mood of vulnerability is shown. To add on, everything in Casey's house is white except for the TV. The TV that she is hiding behind from Ghostface while talking to Ghostface on the phone, shows the power that he has over Casey. The black TV resembles Ghostface's black costume and how Casey is smaller or more vulnerable in this scene.

                                                                 Casey Hallway Scene.

In this scene, Casey realizes something is wrong and that Ghostface is watching her. She walks through her house locking the doors. This scene is a medium shot as it focuses on her shoulders. The environment in this scene is uneasy. The first time I watched this scene, it made me feel very anxious. It creates an anxious tone for the viewers as Ghostface gets angrier making you think that in the hallway that Casey is walking through, she could get attacked by Ghostface or that he could pop up at any second, jump scaring the audience. The lighting is also dark which also makes you think that something bad will happen at any moment.

                                                                  Casey Looking Outside.
In this scene, Casey loses the game she was playing with Ghostface, and she realizes that her boyfriend is about to get murdered. This scene uses a close-up focusing on her emotions as she cries and panics. She cries during the duration of the game they are playing but the camera shot here focuses on her face more as Ghostface tricked her. This whole scene shows how weak and vulnerable Casey is in this situation. Furthermore, the lighting changes, and the light outside turning off shows how her boyfriend's life is being taken. This then shows the reality of her situation as reality sinks in. It then continues with a close-up shot; she is now afraid as she is shaking and crying still.

                                                                Casey Checks the Patio.
In this scene, Casey has just realized that the person calling her, Ghostface, is watching her. She then checks her surroundings and checks the patio. This scene uses another medium close-up shot but from a low angle. The slightly lower angle shows that Casey still thinks that she has control of the situation, looking out if there is anybody outside. However, this demeanor changes as Casey realizes she is being watched. The medium close-up shot also puts some emphasis on her change of emotions as Casey processes what Ghostface has said, realizing that she is in danger.
