Inspiration!

Image
Hi Bloggers! Today, let's discuss what inspired my film, What Lurks In Night! When I heard about a movie opener, I instantly thought of the famous movie openers of Scream. If you couldn't tell from my first few blog posts, I am a HUGE Scream fan! I wanted to recreate something similar to the opening scene of Scream. If you have never watched Scream, the movie opener starts with the person or soon-to-be victim of Ghostface. The scene starts off calm, but with the eerie atmosphere, you KNOW something is going to go wrong. In the end, the person dies and gets killed by Ghostface. That inspired me, and I wanted to make my movie opener somewhat similar.           Another thing that inspired me was this movie trailer Tati sent me. The trailer had a particular type of music that seemed PERFECT for my film, and the typography and font were perfect. As I wanted to make my movie opener similar, I tried to find similar music to the trailers but couldn't. I then c...

Title Sequence Credits

Image
Hey Bloggers! After editing for many, many, many, and many hours, I have come to a problem with the title sequence... At first, I had just put my title sequence at the end of the movie opener because it just felt right. But after looking at it more, I realized something was wrong. Realistically, what movie opener shows all the credits after the opener is done? The purpose of the movie opener is to show the credits IN the scene and to establish a bit of plot with a cliffhanger. I thought more of this, so I asked my friends for their insight and help. Luckily, my great friend, Marcus, LOVES movies and gave me some tips that helped out my film!     Although I was nervous about showing Marcus my work, I thought he'd just laugh and cringe. He was very nice about it and could give me tips and explain what looked right and what seemed unnatural. After his tips, I moved the title sequence throughout the film, so the duration lasted the whole movie. After doi...

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Image
Hey bloggers! I'm so happy to announce that our movie-opener film, What Lurks In Night, will be published in a few blog post! I am so satisfied with the results and the final product! Although I struggled with the editing, I truly am glad with the final product, and I'm SO excited to share it with you all! I struggled with finding the right sounds and music to fit the scene in editing. Although I eventually found a good song that matched the vibe, I combined multiple songs to create the vibe I wanted. Also, adding the footsteps made it challenging to make the sound realistic to the scene. I had to keep adjusting the sound so it was noticeable but not TOO loud to sound unnatural. For the end scene with the jumpscare, I combined 3 songs with a heartbeat sound effect and even a loud scream to tie everything together! Overall, I KNOW my hard work in editing will pay off since the film looks great! I am excited for everyone to see my finished product and the hard w...

Get Ready With Me To Film!

Image
Hey bloggers! If you are not caught up with my blogs and have not seen my GRWM (Get ready with me), I will show you in this blog! I showed this video on my first day of shooting a blog, but I wanted to talk more about the video so it gets its own blog! I usually watch a lot of GRWM's on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, so I was excited to film one myself! While I filmed myself getting ready, I also filmed part of Tati and I's bloopers, which I thought added to the video and made it even cuter!!     To start, it took me a while to publish the video. Mostly because I got lazy, but let's ignore that. I got excited after filming it and even editing it to my favorite song!! But then... I GOT COPYRIGHTED :(!! I made a little blog rant about that if you haven't seen it. Although I was upset, I put a different song that WASN'T COPYRIGHTED over it, and it still turned out adorable! So all is good!      I started my GRWM with me doing my skincare...

How Did We Come Up With Our Film?

Image
Hey Bloggers! Today, I will tell you all how I came up with the idea for our sleep paralysis film, What Lurks In Night!      It all started the day Tati and I were going to brainstorm. Earlier that day, my two good friends at lunch were talking about their dreams and Deja Vu. Then, we got onto the topic of sleep paralysis. My friends started telling me the horror stories of their experiences of sleep paralysis and these "sleep paralysis demons." After Tati and I decided to make a movie opener on sleep paralysis, I took inspiration from Scream. I really wanted to do horror with a monster, which could be similar to the Scream movie's movie opener with the main character dying. However, my character just got jumpscared by their sleep paralysis demon.      Overall, I am happy my friends told me their horrifying experiences with sleep paralysis as I got inspired to create our film, What Lurks in Night!

What is Sleep Paralysis?

Image
What is Sleep Paralysis? Although my short film and blogs have been about sleep paralysis, have we answered the question, what is sleep paralysis? Well, in this blog we will answer that question. Welcome back bloggers to Jade Blogs!      Sleep paralysis is a temporary state of not being able to move or speak while being asleep or waking up. Although it is a common thing it hasn’t happened to me (luckily). Which is surprising into me since I sleep all the time. A lot of people tell me that sleep paralysis occurs when you sleep on your back. However, I’m sure it’s a myth as I sleep on my back ALL the time and it has not happened to me yet. Although while in sleep paralysis you cannot move or speak we decided to add the fact that you CAN move and speak in our film. The main character gets up and looks around and even screams. Although sleep paralsyis can occur to anyone, studies have shown that sleep paralysis is linked to stress and alcohol use...

Bloopers!

Image
Hey Bloggers! Today is finally the day… The day I show you my movie opener bloopers! As you know I worked with Tati, she is hilarious and made the film ten times better. These bloopers are so funny and I laughed and smiled so much while editing these bloopers. I overall had such an amazing time filming and laughing so much with Tati. I hope you enjoy these bloopers!!!  P.S. It’s almost 4 minutes of funny moments!! I really hope you can tell how much fun I had. I am sure you can tell by how much I was laughing. But these funny moments is what made our film, What Lurks In Night, so great. Tati and I’s friendship definitely developed these past few months from working together on this film. I am so happy and grateful I was able to work with Tati and make our masterpiece of a film.  https://youtu.be/zAAQPwNPXkw?feature=shared ^^ Video for the bloopers!

Wishlist

Image
Hey Bloggers! Today we are going to talk about my wishlist and my dreams about if I created my movie opener with a major movie production budget!! To start, I would actually hire professional actors and not myself who has no acting experience what’s so ever. It was difficult acting as I would burst out laughing or cringe at myself. After doing my movie opener I really appreciate actors as I could NEVER be one. To continue, I would probably have Pablo Mendez or Marcus Cheeatow edit my film as they are both really good editors with an amazing eye for movies. Pablo is very talented with using Premiere Pro, which I absolutely despise and dislike. Premiere Pro is terrible and CapCut is clearly the better editing software… Anyways, Marcus has a good eye for films and what things in the film are unnecessary or just don’t look right. I asked him for criticism for my film and he helped me a lot. After a lot of fixing and tweaking my film looks so much better. If I had the budget and was a ...

Specific Camera Shots/Angles

Image
Hey Bloggers! Today we are going to talk about the camera shots and angles that are used in my movie opener!  Close Up For our first shot we have a close up. It is a camera angle of me sleeping. In the context of my film, the close up is used to show that I am sleeping. The attention is on my closed eyes, I also added a snoring sound effect to make it seem even more like I am sleeping. Close up/POV For this shot, it is another close up. Although the lighting is dark, you can still make out that it is a monster looking down on the character. This evokes a sense of helplessness as a low camera angle creates a sense of vulnerability. Also, the close up is also a POV shot. It is showing what the character is seeing which is the monster above her. POV Shot  This shot is a POV shot. After the main character is startled awake, she gets up and looks around. This camera shot shows the character looking around the room searching for what woke her up. This shot creates a sense of confusi...

Editing Part 2

Image
Hey Bloggers!! Today let us discuss my editing process... To remind you of the previous editing blog post of mine, Tati and I are in a group together working to make this film. I am doing the handwork of editing this film as I have previous experience in editing of my 2 years of videography class. Although the professional and cool choice would be to use Premiere Pro... I SAY NO. I am a Premiere Pro hater.     Recently, I have been editing... or trying to edit in my videography class skits we do for our tv production, but Premiere Pro is very time consuming and confusing. In my humble opinion I'd say to use CapCut 100 times over Premiere Pro. The only thing I'd say Premiere Pro is good for is their effects. The ability to use adjustment layers to add effects such as a tint, to add crop,  to add different color, etc.. However, with the time I have, I can't learn Premiere Pro to edit my film, it is WAYYYYY easier to just use CapCut with its simplicity yet efficient ed...

Day 2 of Shooting

Image
Hi Bloggers! On the second day of shooting, Tati and I did the beginning part of our film opener. I filmed the establishing shot of my house at night. We went back into Tati's house and filmed my night routine and me going to bed. Specifically we filmed me going inside the bathroom, turning on the light, grabbing a towel and going inside the shower. Of course we did not actually film me inside the shower (lol)… I just stepped in and we cut the shot there. We then resumed the shot of me grabbing the towel from the shower and me appearing in my pajamas. This was my whole nightly routine that we filmed in our day 2 of shooting.     Although this sounded easy there were some challenges First off, I would be laughing the whole time, and I literally could not take myself seriously. Tati and I had a bunch of funny moments (which you will see in the bloopers)… Which made us go off track and goof off. Also another challenge was Tati and I unable to be in the ...

Makeup

Hi Bloggers! Today we are going to talk about makeup!! First off, I love makeup. For Christmas I got new makeup that I have been wanting to try... So I experimented and came up with the makeup for the main character in my film!! I went for a more grunge look. Updated Storyboard!

Image
Hi Bloggers! Our storyboard has changed!!! Not a lot, but a bit. Originally, I created the storyboard with the vision of it being at my house. Later we decided to film at Tati's house as it would be easier. Also, in the film I was going to wash my face and do my skincare, as if I was getting ready for bed. After working so hard on my makeup I really wanted to skip that step of washing my face... SO we skipped that part on the storyboard. At the end of the film when the monster appears, we just added a few more scenes of the monster appearing and making noise to scare and tease the protagonist.
